Founded in 2017, Refugee Assistance Alliance works with the most vulnerable refugees from around the world who have been resettled into Miami-Dade or Broward counties through the U.S. refugee resettlement program. They are our new American neighbors, and we welcome them to the United States.
Refugees arrive in South Florida often without the language skills or practical knowledge to adapt to their new life, which can leave them feeling marginalized, vulnerable and underserved. Upon arrival, many refugees feel unable to fully navigate their U.S. communities or institutions, feel socially isolated, and feel they don't have anyone to turn to for practical needs and concerns.
The majority of refugees who arrive in the U.S. only get official assistance for 90 days, but most still feel unable to fully navigate their lives. This is where RAA steps in. We know they have a lot to offer our country, communities, and ourselves, so we aim to come alongside them in their resettlement journey. We recognize they do not need us to empower or save them, but that they could use a friend and cultural mentor in the same way that we could if we resettled into their home countries.
We believe that refugees and immigrants make our country stronger and better, and that everyone deserves to live in safety, community, and with opportunities to succeed.
There are many refugee families in Miami waiting for assistance, but we are at capacity. We need YOUR help to be able to onboard new families to offer them English language, employment, practical support, and perhaps most importantly, community and friendship.
RAA wants to let families know they are loved, welcome, part of the community, and that they belong. Will you join us by making a donation for Give Miami Day?
To help underserved refugees find the practical and language support they need to navigate life in their new homeland.
