Emily Lau is championing RAA

This Give Miami Day, I want to ask for your support for the Refugee Assistance Alliance (RAA), a nonprofit that is doing incredible work to help refugee families build new lives in the United States.

Like many immigrants, my family has been deeply impacted by the kindness and generosity of those who helped us when we first arrived. I will always be grateful to the neighbors who taught my mother-in-law how to drive, helped her learn English, and guided my father-in-law on how to start his business. With no family or close friends to rely on, the language barrier, and a new culture to navigate, settling into a new country can feel overwhelming.

That’s why the work of RAA is so important. They don’t just give refugees a “handout,” they teach them how to fish—providing the tools, resources, and education necessary to thrive in their new community. Through job training, language courses, and cultural orientation, RAA empowers families to become self-sufficient and build lasting foundations.

We all know how much it means to have a community that supports you in your new journey. Let’s pay that forward to the refugee families who need it most.
