WHO WE ARE: City Year Miami helps students and schools succeed, while preparing the next generation of civically engaged leaders who can work across lines of difference. In partnership with teachers and schools, City Year Miami AmeriCorps members cultivate learning environments where all students can build on their strengths, fully engage in their learning, and experience success—helping them progress on their journey towards bright futures.
OUR IMPACT IN MIAMI-DADE: Since 2008, over 2,000 young people have served over 10,000 of Miami-Dade's students. Working as student success coaches, they help students cultivate skills, whether that’s mastering fractions or learning to work in teams—skills that are important in school and in life. Last year, all ten City Year Miami partner schools maintained or improved at least one letter grade, and two improved from a "D" to a "B"! 84% of students served in English Language Arts and 88% of students served in Math stayed on track with a C or higher, and 96% of partner teachers agreed that AmeriCorps members fostered a positive environment for learning.
THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE: Teams of City Year AmeriCorps members serve in ten of Miami-Dade's most vulnerable schools from Homestead to Miami Gardens. In the partner schools at which we serve, 98% of students are students of color, and 87% are considered economically disadvantaged as measured by free and reduced-price lunch rates. Through their work in schools and communities, City Year Miami AmeriCorps members make a difference in the lives of students they serve and acquire valuable skills that prepare them to become the next generation of leaders.
City Year's mission is to advance educational equity by supporting students furthest from opportunity and to develop diverse leaders through national service who can work across lines of difference.
