Debris Free Oceans is a Miami-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Miami-Dade communities to go zero-waste! Founded in 2014, Debris Free Oceans focuses on reducing single-use plastics and fostering a circular economy through education, community events, and sustainability consulting.
Over the past decade, Debris Free Oceans has:
This Give Miami Day, your support will help strengthen our Zero Waste Miami Program to support the implementation of community-led zero waste projects developed through our workshops, while continuing to grow the Chef Andrew Scholar Program, which trains the next generation of ocean leaders to lead cleanups, deliver educational talks, and advocate for policy change in our community.
This year, donations will go even further thanks to the generosity of Roberta & Russ Alessi, parents of Chef Andrew Michael Alessi. Every dollar you donate will be matched, up to $10,000, doubling the impact of your contribution in supporting Miami's future ocean advocates.
Debris Free Oceans empowers Miami-Dade communities to go zero-waste! Through education, community events, and sustainability consulting, we are building the cultural and infrastructural capacity needed for a transition from a throwaway culture to a circular economy, so that all can have access to clean oceans and healthy environments.
Since 2014, we've been working to make zero-waste an accessible reality in Miami-Dade -- giving residents the tools and knowledge to rethink single-use consumption and embrace lifestyles with more action and less clutter. This begins with understanding how the 5Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle, recapture, redesign) can be incorporated into all facets of society.
