Andrea's Fundraiser for a Healthy Future

I started working at UHP because I was looking for a way to make a larger impact. As a psychologist, I had talked with thousands of people about their mental health and their quality of life and thought to myself...... what if instead of treating people once they're hurting, we can co-create a community where people can thrive, where we can prevent the issues that folks are struggling with in the first place?

UHP allowed me the privilege to think about and take action on the issues that affect people's everyday life- access to food, transportation, parks and public spaces, healthcare- what a different world we would live in if everyone had the resources they need to be healthy and live up to their potential. 

Then something unexpected happened. 8 days after having my son, Liam, I experienced a "widow-maker" heart attack due to a spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) and was seconds away from losing my life. I know that I survived in large part because I had access to the right doctors, right information, right insurance, and right care.  Becoming a mom and having a new appreciation for the limited time we have in this life only reinforced my desire to fight for health- mine, my loved ones', and for all of us.
