"The Melissa Institute, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to violence prevention through research, education, and community support. Honoring the memory of Melissa Aptman, whose tragic murder in St. Louis on May 5, 1995, led to the organization's establishment, The Melissa Institute works tirelessly to promote mental health and create safer and healthier homes, schools, and communities."
The Melissa Institute has always aspired to create a world in which all children and families are safe and enjoy positive mental health. These goals are the basis of every training, conference, presentation, publication, consultation, and program that we provide. Through the generous support of friends and communities nationwide, TMI has made significant strides in providing education, funding research, and implementing life-saving programs. To boost the spread and impact of our dissemination efforts, for the past 28 years, we have chosen to make all our courses and resources accessible to the public for free.
Today, TMI is the primary source of research-based safety promotion and mental health treatment strategies with innovative programs to bolster resilience, support parents and caregivers, equip people with tools to diffuse anger and conflict, as well as to promote mental health. Our Scientific Board Members work around the clock to stay up to date and share their knowledge with leaders at local, national, and international levels. As a result of this work, TMI has earned a well-deserved reputation for excellence in everything we do.
This is only possible with the unwavering support from donors like you! Together, we ARE making a difference.
