Local news is in trouble. Help us hire reporters to cover the news in Miami towns and villages.

I reported on Miami for more than a decade. My kids were born there and went to elementary school across from the Arsht Center. In many ways I still think of Miami as home.

That’s why I joined the board of the Miami Fourth Estate —to give back and support hyper local journalism because it’s essential for our democracy. Please join me today. We need you!

Now more than ever, our democracy requires people to understand what is going on in —and engage with—their communities. That’s what local news helps us do.

Miami is broken up into 34 towns, but when it comes to hyper local news, most places don't get regular coverage. We're aiming to fix that by hiring professionals who work alongside concerned residents to cut through the misinformation and create nonpartisan, fact-driven and engaging news reporting.

To that end, this year we have expanded our coverage to Liberty City and will continue to stretch into other local news deserts.

We're a newsroom that's won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and we've been nominated for Esserman-Knight prizes. Here’s what Miami Fourth Estate covers: Development. Schools. Business. Housing. Cool Cultural Trends. Environment. Crime and Criminal Justice.

Being a member of this fundraiser will help so much in building community support as we expand.

Thank you for any contribution you can make. You make a difference.
