Friends, I founded this publication in 2021 with the dream that it would be a permanent home where underserved, fledgling Miami artists and writers could publish. I'm proud to say that the home is built. Here are some of the highlights:
- We've published 10 issues of the print periodical, sold nearly 5,000 copies, and paid 150+ contributors for their work.
- We launched an artist-in-residence program last year, funding materials and providing space to research and publish for an early career Miami artist.
- We launched a digital publication where we are paying more and more writers each day.
- The first episode of our Miamilandia podcast is going live THIS WEEK.
- We've shared archival research on our social media accounts and published reels and posts which have garnered 1,000,000+ views.
We've been lucky to receive grant funding from the Knight Foundation and are excited to announce a grant from Miami-Dade County but these funds are only part of what we need!
Islandia needs your help now more than ever. We need funds to pay our staff, advance our capacity to earn grant funding, and build out our digital platforms to meet an expanding audience.
IF YOU HAVE EVER RELIED ON THE RESEARCH WE DO OR REACHED OUT TO ME PERSONALLY TO UNDERSTAND SOUTH FLORIDA HISTORY AND MYTHS, I URGE YOU TO CONSIDER SUPPORTING THIS WORK WITH AT LEAST A FEW BUCKS. WRITERS AND ARTISTS NEED IT.
IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH, EVERY INDIVIDUAL DONOR WILL RECEIVE AN ID CARD AND CITIZENSHIP (WITH TITLE) TO THE LOST CITY OF ISLANDIA.
Thank you for your support.
Neotropically,
Jason
