Hi,

For the past 4 years I’ve been on the Board of Miami Fourth Estate (d/b/a Key Biscayne Independent and Liberty City Independent). I’m proud that it has grown from nothing to a key source of information for the community.

We operate on a shoe string budget by leveraging volunteer time and hiring professionals who work alongside concerned residents to create nonpartisan, fact-driven, solid news. Our reporting focuses on under-reported issues critical to residents: Village government, local elections, real estate development, schools, crime, environment, and the arts and culture.

Our KBI newsletter reaches an audience of 5,000 -- not bad for an Island of 15,000! Clearly our readership includes many other interested parties.

In keeping with our non-profit 501 (C) (3) status, over 95% of these readers access the content for free; though we are exceedingly thankful for our paying subscribers, who receive full access to the archives and many other perks. But, those subscriptions and one-time grants only go so far. It costs money to sift through public records requests, to monitor and report on court cases, to find and interview experts and event witnesses, to curate news content from our partners and to maintain a website so that we can bring you original reporting on local issues that the main stream media often overlooks.

None of this work is possible without the ongoing support of the community. That is why I am asking you to pitch in with a donation now for Give Miami Day.

Your gift matters. Keep real reporting alive.

Thank you,

Jan Dillow
