HIP believes that every young person deserves to be physically and emotionally safe and healthy.
To achieve this, HIP uses the power of peer education by training high school students to be health teachers.
Miami Palmetto is fundraising for HIP to ensure all students have the chance to bring innovative peer health education to their schools!
What makes HIP unique:
- Unlike the traditional health education class, HIP is run by high school students!
This means:
- No boring lectures!
- No outdated textbooks!
- No scare tactics!
- No cheesy videos!
Here's how HIP works:
- HIP trains 11th and 12th grade students to be peer educators.
- These peer educators deliver a science-based program to all 9th grade students at their school.
- HIP addresses critical health topics teens are facing, such as depression, anxiety, drugs, obesity, suicide, eating disorders, bullying, and abuse.
- The peer-to-peer model creates a safe space for discussion of relevant health topics and helps to build a sense of belonging and community.
- HIP connects students to life-changing, life-saving resources at school and in their communities.
- HIP partnered with ImpactEd, a research institute at the University of Pennsylvania, to evaluate the program and measure impact.
Because of your generosity each Give Miami Day, HIP has grown beyond Miami! HIP is now a national model for innovation in health education. HIP partners with school districts in Broward, Pinellas and Monroe counties in Florida as well as Little Rock and Minneapolis. Through a partnership with the Heckscher Foundation for Children, HIP is launching this school year in New York and New Jersey!
Please support HIP in its expansion to more school districts and schools nationwide!
