Hi,
Please join me in supporting Miami Fourth Estate in its quest to provide hyperlocal journalism to Miami-Dade County.
In the past 25 years I've seen Miami transform from a (relatively) modest city defined by its proximity to beaches into an exemplar for environmental change, a real estate powerhouse, a destination for arts an culture, and a hot bed for social justice issues though, we still maintain our quirky side and political intrigues. There are many unique stories to tell beyond the national headlines -- though some may have national implications.
The problem is that when it comes to hyper local news, most places don't get regular coverage. At Miami Fourth Estate we're aiming to fix that by hiring professionals who will work alongside concerned residents to create nonpartisan, fact-driven solid news reporting.
Now, more than ever in these turbulent times, local independent news is crucial in every community. The Key Biscayne Independent, our first hyperlocal newspaper, is dedicated to earning the trust of our online readers by covering the news without favor. We uncover what residents need to know about schools, business, crime, transportation, and housing. And, in an area that's also home to local, state and federal agencies researching our environment, KBI is on top of that, too. Let's face it. Major news organizations in Miami don't have enough time to devote to every community. KBI is laser-focussed. What's more, we're also trying to help expand our hyperlocal journalism model to under-covered areas in Miami-Dade county. because we think an informed citizenry makes a stronger, more vibrant community.
