On Give Miami Day, your donation will impact communities around the world who are vulnerable to humanitarian disasters – including right here in Miami. 

As we reflect upon the first 15 years since our founding, it has been remarkable to see how the Global Institute for Community Health and Development has evolved from our original vision for domestic and international service. Today, we are widely seen as leaders in 4 key sectors of global health: education, research, health equity and humanitarian disaster response. Since our unprecedented deployment following the historic 2010 earthquake in Haiti, we have learned that the best way to support a disaster afflicted community is by bolstering infrastructure, building capacity, and strengthening the health sector. With our renowned expertise and programs, we now assist many more communities locally and internationally that are facing natural or manmade disasters. From leading preparedness simulations for local responders in Miami to deploying support to the hurricane-devastated islands in the Bahamas, we have built a reputation for always answering “yes” to communities in need. Our support encompasses more than a plan for recovery but emphasizes resiliency – so impacted communities can continue to succeed long after most organizations have left. Our goal will always be to restore and empower local infrastructure and personnel, not to displace and replace them.
