Our Mission
Shalala MusicReach at the Frost School of Music provides impactful music education, mentorship, and enrichment to underserved youth in South Florida. We aim to inspire and equip students from all backgrounds with the confidence, skills, and passion to pursue their dreams through the power of music. Our commitment to accessible, community-centered programming transforms lives, strengthens communities, and builds a bridge between Miami's youth and the arts.

About Us
Since its founding, Shalala MusicReach has grown to serve over 1,500 students each year, reaching into schools, community centers, and directly impacting Miami-Dade County’s underserved youth. Through free or low-cost programs and partnerships with local schools and organizations, we provide tailored music education, mentorship, and creative outlets for children who might otherwise have limited access to these opportunities. Our programs range from classical and jazz training to contemporary and therapeutic music-making, with hands-on learning experiences led by young, passionate artist mentors from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music.

Our Programs

  • Mentorship Programs: Weekly sessions for students interested in classical, jazz, and contemporary music, led by Frost School of Music students and teaching artists.
  • Therapeutic Music Outreach: Music therapy-based interventions for students with disabilities and other specific needs.
  • Community Performances and Workshops: Inclusive events, such as children's concerts and workshops, designed to celebrate cultural diversity and provide live performance opportunities.
  • New Contemporary Department: A pioneering initiative launched this year, bringing contemporary music education to over 50 students from disadvantaged backgrounds, supported by a grant from the Kenan Charitable Trust.

Our Impact
With the help of our community, Shalala MusicReach has secured over $1.2M in new and expanded funding, allowing us to expand programs and reach more youth each year. Our recent achievements include:

  • Launching a contemporary music department with MADE and CAM students, providing a pathway for students interested in modern music styles.
  • Partnering with The Children’s Trust, Kenan Trust, and other foundations, securing multi-year funding that allows us to grow sustainably.
  • Receiving the Community Champion Award from Arthur and Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts, recognizing our dedication to student success and community development.
  • Having our young artists excel in prestigious music competitions, creating both local and national opportunities for their growth and success.

Why Give on Give Miami Day?

Every dollar goes directly toward supporting our teaching artists, creating new programs, and maintaining essential resources, such as transportation and instruments, for our students. Your support fuels our mission of transforming lives through music and ensures that every child has the opportunity to discover the joy and power of music, regardless of their background.
