Mission

Centering the experiences of the African Diaspora, The Black Collective is a movement committed to promoting a shared agenda to elevate political consciousness and amplify the economic power of Black communities.

Organization History

After the 2016 elections, a group of young Black leaders came together in South Florida to analyze the moment and the political realities we would face for the next four years. Out of many discussions, listening sessions and strategic meetings, we came to the realization that there was a dire need for a true grassroots initiative to educate and protect Black communities.

Our board collectively has over 30 years of experience leading grassroots community organizing, education, engagement, mobilization and advocacy campaigns, especially around the needs and opportunities of historically marginalized and excluded communities and even more so within the Black community in Miami-Dade. Our board is a diverse group of multilingual, young Black leaders, who have a very public and proven record of working in collaboration with community partners.

The Black Collective understands the importance of not duplicating existing work or programs. At the heart of our work is participatory democracy; we are committed to establishing spaces where community members can be active participants and decision-makers in the future of their communities.

Values

We are the personification of our ancestors.

We believe in innovation and building towards our future.

We organize to shift the material conditions of everyday Black people.

We believe that culture is the bedrock of our community.

We honor dignity, embrace the diversity of our people and all that connects us.

We are fearless and unapologetic in collectively building Black power to lead us to liberation.

Centering Racial Justice

The Black Collective makes room for all the dimensions and complexities of being Black. We are connected through our common history rooted in our strength and resilience. Our future will be determined by our ability to develop a shared understanding that we must stand, build, and organize across immigration status, ethnicities, sexual orientation, class, age, abilities deeply grounded in our Blackness. We are Black First. Our fight for racial justice and equity is rooted in harnessing both our political and economic power to hold existing and future people in positions of power accountable. We organize communities around the issues that are important to them. By increasing civic participation and community engagement through curated spaces grounded in political education centered on self-determination in alignment with our goals and values.

Mission

WE ARE A MOVEMENT COMMITTED TO BUILDING AND PROMOTING A SHARED BLACK AGENDA TO ELEVATE POLITICAL CONSCIOUSNESS AND BUILD POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC POWER FOR BLACK COMMUNITIES.
