South Florida Youth Symphony, Inc.
Serving the students and families of South Florida, nationally and internationally since 1964, The South Florida Youth Symphony faculty and board have developed and maintained one of the oldest and most respected classical music training organizations for young people in the USA, especially underserved students in the northern most communities of Miami-Dade county. SFYS is an active member of the Youth Orchestra Division of the League of American Orchestras, and a partner and certifying organization with the PVSA (Presidential Volunteer Service Award) program, working with student and adult volunteers, setting them apart from their peers, for a better community.
Locally the symphony organization of over 280 students a season, sponsors 5 training classes in strings, winds and keyboard and three lprogressing evels of orchestra, performing community concerts each season from August through July. The organizational coaches are alumni of the orchestra, professional area musicians, and visiting professionals or local teachers and conductors. SFYS has hosted 28 years of summer music camp programs in the Miami area, securing a safe summer environment for many kids.
Besides providing informational event booths, and festival mini concerts for students in Miami Dade, and surrounding communities, SFYS has performed three times in Carnegie Hall, won top award trophies for musical floats in three Jr. Orange Bowl parades; was awarded superior national trophies for Music Festivals in Washington, New York, and the Bahamas; and performed and competed at the 30th International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna Austria. In 2006 the orchestra engaged a cultural music exchange in Managua, Granada, Lyon, & Masatepe, Nicaragua . Recent accolades include winning the Gold for Performance at the Prague Bohemian Music Festival in 2019, and a Suncoast Emmy for their Virtual presentation during the Covid Pandemic. The SFYS perfromed a three city concert tour in Italy in the Spring of 2023, and a side-by-side concert with the FUNSINCOPA youth symphony of PANAMA oin March 2024

MISSION STATEMENT: South Florida Youth Symphony, Inc.
*To establish, maintain and promote a youth symphony orchestra program in south Florida comprised of youths 3 to 23 years of age;
*To empower all students ages 3-23 without regard to race, color, creed, disabilities or orientation, with the skills necessary for success in the music field, developing the total child with positive life skills
*To encourage public participation and sponsorship in the youth orchestra program, and render to the community a quality cultural and educational service.
