Somerset Academy South Miami, SoMi, is a free, public charter school that opened its doors during the 2009-2010 school year. SoMi Elementary and Middle Schools have repeatedly been named among the top schools in the nation by U.S. News.

The school has a staff of highly qualified teachers and administrators that are State certified, experienced, and dedicated professionals whose highest priority is to maximize the potential of every child. Our staff is committed to awakening every student's natural curiosity, develop and foster a love for learning, build on strengths, prepare them to meet challenges, and inspire them to excel.

Technology - rich classrooms are used to enhance students with the most sophisticated and research based teaching practices. Students are exposed to the latest technological tools such as Touch Screen Boards, iPads, laptops, and image document cameras, and are encouraged to interact by creating their own documents, presentations, and utilize web programs.

The elementary and middle school earned a letter grade of "A" for the 12th consecutive year, and received a "School Recognition Award" from the Florida Department of Education. Based on the points received under the State of Florida Accountability Program, Somerset Academy South Miami continues to be ranked amongst the highest performing public elementary and middle schools in Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida.

Somerset Academy Middle South Miami earned the 2020 National Blue Ribbon award for its outstanding work in closing achievement gaps. In 2024, U.S. News ranked SoMi's Elementary School #1 in Miami-Dade County Public Schools Elementary Schools, #3 in Florida Charter Schools, and #7 in Florida Elementary Schools. U.S. News ranked SoMi's Middle School #6 in Miami-Dade County Public Schools Middle Schoools, #6 in Florida Charter Middle Schools, and #16 in Florida Middle Schools!
