At the Miami Veterinary Foundation (MVF), we believe that the joys of being a pet parent should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Every pet deserves a quality life and a safe, loving home. Unfortunately, for many Miami residents, veterinary care is often out of reach, even though it is essential for fostering a strong and meaningful bond between humans and their pets.
Pet overpopulation remains a significant challenge in Miami's animal welfare landscape. Our programs are committed to addressing this challenge by preventing unwanted litters and expanding access to essential veterinary care for pets and families who might otherwise be unable to receive it.
Our Impact:
Last year, our programs, powered by the incredible support of our community, made a profound difference in the lives of thousands of animals. Together, we achieved approximately 6,500 spays and neuters. In addition, 950 pets received the medical care they needed, to help them live healthier, happier lives.
Our Programs:
Pets for Life (PFL): Our Pets for Life program delivers vital veterinary care and support to pet owners who would otherwise go without. Through ongoing community outreach, we break down barriers to pet services and build lasting relationships with marginalized communities. This program also includes a dispatch role to facilitate critical care for emergent pets, to ensure that no pet in urgent need is left behind.
MVF Spay & Neuter: Every animal deserves a chance to live a healthy, happy life, and we are committed to making that a reality. That’s why we provide free or low-cost spay/neuter services and vaccinations to income-qualified residents. By doing so, we not only promote pet health but also help prevent the overpopulation of cats and dogs in our community.
Did you know there are nearly 500,000 roaming cats in Miami-Dade County? Many of these cats are still unaltered, contributing to the overpopulation crisis. Sadly, research shows that 60% of litters born outdoors do not survive, underscoring the urgency of our efforts. Thanks to the support of compassionate residents and humane trappers, over 5,000 community cats are sterilized at no cost each year, saving thousands of lives.
Our partnerships with 23 veterinary clinics across the county enable dedicated veterinarians and staff to perform these life-saving surgeries. Additionally, we host a monthly dog spay/neuter event in Homestead.
Project Unleashed: Our monthly wellness clinic serves an average of 75 cats and dogs from Miami's most under-resourced neighborhoods, providing essential services like basic wellness exams, vaccinations, and flea/tick prevention. With your help, we can expand these critical services to reach more pets and their owners, and stray animals, ensuring healthier communities and a brighter future for all.

Together, we can give every animal the chance to lead a happy, healthy life. Your generosity fuels our mission to make veterinary care accessible for all, leaving a lasting impact on the animals and families we serve.
Our mission is to increase access to veterinary care, promote responsible pet ownership, strengthen the human animal bond and support reduction of pet overpopulation in our community.
