Lugar Comun

Lugar Comun, founded by Venezuelan immigrants, has been championing literature and the arts for over a decade. In 2018, the founders were forced to emigrate and moved to Miami, where they continued their mission to use literature as a platform for understanding within communities. They established Alliteration Publishing House, drawing inspiration from the Miami Beach Art Deco design and the multiculturalism that defines our community. Alliteration publishes authors from diverse linguistic backgrounds, reflecting migration experiences and offering multilingual editions in English, Spanish, and Italian—a unique contribution to the English-speaking literary world.

In 4 years, we’ve published 27 titles, including 4 children’s books, received 1,321 contest applications, hosted 20 in-person events reaching an audience of more than 800, and participated in numerous book fairs, including the Feria Internacional del Libro de Nueva York and AWP.

Notably, we received the Poetry Foundation's "Equity in Verse" grant for two consecutive years.

Looking ahead to 2025, our plans include:

Children’s Book Collection: Expanding our bilingual English and Spanish collection with contemporary authors and illustrators, paired with family-friendly activities throughout Miami-Dade County to foster a love for reading and shared values.

Lugar Comun Poetry Award: Launching the 7th edition to support emerging writers in Spanish, with a $1,500 cash prize and publication in Spanish, English, and Italian.

Workshops: Expanding our educational programming with new workshops in literary arts, philosophy, and publishing, in collaboration with key partners like the Roberto Mata School of Photography.

New Publications: Publishing 10 poetry titles, highlighting authors from Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.

Theatrical Productions: Further developing plays based on our children’s book collection to promote reading and inspire young audiences through creative storytelling.

Together, we remain committed to championing diverse voices, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and enriching the literary landscape.
