Kids are awesome. They're creative. They're fearless. They're bursting with energy and hungry for knowledge. They know how to make the most of every opportunity.

But kids from our most vulnerable communities don't always have the chance to discover just how awesome they can be. These kids are filled with promise. They have big dreams and bold stories to tell. And yet, due to circumstances and systems beyond their control, they don't always know that they have the freedom to choose a path of their own.

At Guitars Over Guns, we're changing that through music and art, because we believe that music/art, combined with strong, consistent mentorship, can reshape the trajectory of a student's life. During the 2024-2025 school year, we are delivering high-impact programming to a projected 1,100 youth aged 11 to 18 across Miami-Dade County, at 24 schools and 5 community studios, served by a dedicated team of more than 60 professional teaching artists, who we pay and train to provide trauma-informed care. Our teaching artists (mentors) teach our youth how to take healthy risks, like getting on stage for the first time, and how to work as a team. They also hold our youth accountable -- whether it's checking their grades or reminding them of their goal to practice their instruments outside of session. It is our belief that all young people should have the opportunity to discover and reach their full potential through the power of mentorship and the arts. 

Additionally, we have our M-Power Mental Health & Wellness Program, supporting students creative and holistic growth; and our Alumni Program, supporting our high school youth through college and career readiness. All of your support further elevates our mission and also supports 9 summer camps in Miami and our out-of-state enrichment programs, inclusive of sending students to the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend GRAMMY Camp.
