Every generation deserves to sail on Biscayne Bay.

Since 1946, we've been teaching Miami to sail. What started as a group of residents sharing a love of Biscayne Bay has grown into a place where kids discover confidence, where adults find community, and where sailing teaches lessons that follow you for life.

Today, the Coconut Grove Sailing Club Instructional Center is a 501(c)(3) serving every age and skill level — from kids taking their first wobbly tack on an Optimist to adults earning their US Sailing certification. Our instructors are certified to the highest national standards. Our community spans generations.

Here's what this looks like:

1,200+ kids annually in youth programs (camps, school year, regattas)
35+ full and partial scholarships awarded last year
200+ adults learn to sail and earn US Sailing certification annually
600+ sailors annually through free community Wednesday sailing (March–November)

But numbers don't tell the whole story. A kid arrives as a rambunctious 10-year-old and becomes a leader and a mentor. An adult steps to the helm for the first time and finds belonging in a community that's anchored Coconut Grove for eighty years.

We believe sailing brings out the best in people.

For eighty years, we've watched it happen. A kid arrives unsure of themselves and discovers they're capable of more than they imagined. An adult steps onto the water for the first time and finds a community that anchors them. We teach people to sail—kids on Optimists, adults at the helm of a keelboat. But that's only the beginning.

What really matters comes next: the confidence, the friendships, the mentorship, the person they become. The skills matter. The relationships matter more. And we're committed to ensuring that every person who falls in love with sailing—regardless of their background or circumstance—gets the opportunity to pursue it.
