$1,500 Goal

ASFI's programming focuses in on two major goals: ushering professional mentors into under-serviced schools to mentor and support at-risk students who present particular talent, skills, and advanced interest in the film industry; and constructing a school to industry pipeline which students could engage to assist them in work placement and college admissions after high school graduation.

To further advance these goals, the program consolidates one-on-one mentoring techniques with group hands-on workshops to introduce individual students to complex concepts and technologies, while providing supervision and mentoring which guides them through the theory and practice of engaging advanced technologies and software. In its involvement of distinguished industry and community leaders, ASFI aims to bring together the South Florida community under a single banner with a unified goal: Offering students opportunities to create original works with guidance and mentoring of leading industry creatives; ultimately resulting in a pipeline between participating schools and creative industries.

Mission

The After School Film Institute (ASFI) brings notable film professionals into under-serviced middle and high schools around Miami-Dade County, introducing at-risk students to the technologies and crafts involved in the complex art of film making and video production. The program focuses on mentoring at-risk students with the aim of building professional and life skills such as leadership, group dynamics, accountability, and deadline management, while providing advanced technical training with modern tools, technologies, and software essential to constructing career opportunities in the film, television, and video production industries.
