MENTORING PROGRAM
Each school year, we pair professional women with small groups of public high school girls for monthly school-based mentoring sessions. During sessions, mentors and girls discuss topics such as college planning, resume writing, career choices, goal setting, time management and others. With guidance from mentors, participating girls form tight bonds and support each other on a day-to-day basis, keeping each other accountable and providing positive peer feedback. Career-focused field trips introduce mentees to career options they may not have considered or even heard of before. Field trips include facility tours, discussion of the profession or industry, and speakers sharing their career paths, experiences and advice. College campus visits expose the girls to higher education opportunities typically unavailable or unknown to them, thus encouraging the girls to dream beyond their current limits. Many mentees come from families with no precedent for higher education.
CAREER-FOCUSED FIELD TRIPS
Career-focused field trips introduce mentees to career options they thought were outside their reach or may have never been exposed to. Field trips include facility tours, discussion of the profession or industry, and speakers sharing their experiences and advice.
COLLEGE CAMPUS VISITS
College campus visits expose the girls to higher education opportunities typically unavailable or unknown to them, thus encouraging the girls to dream beyond their current limits. Many mentees come from families with no precedent for higher education. Nearly half are the first generation to graduate from high school. The effectiveness of our program is demonstrated by our mentees' significantly higher graduation rates, higher academic performance, and increased enrollment in higher education, among other measures.
Our mission is to inspire, motivate and empower at-risk young women to live up to their full potential through a unique mentoring program with highly accomplished professional women and scholarship opportunities. Women of Tomorrow was founded in 1997 by television journalist Jennifer Valoppi and former Telemundo Network president Don Browne to address the needs of teenage girls most at risk of failure and dropping out of school. Our program was born from the belief that caring professional women sharing their knowledge, expertise and support with at-risk young women, can be the catalyst for success by inspiring them to aim higher, and by providing them with knowledge and skills to achieve personal and professional success.
