Temple Israel of Greater Miami has a trove of documentation related to its 102-year history. These documents and photographs are an essential part of the history of the synagogue and our historic building. With your support, Temple Israel will begin organizing and scanning all these materials for uploading and cataloging them in an online archive.

This project will allow Temple Israel to access these documents and easily share their content with the broader community. Modernizing the historical trove will serve as an important resource for staff, clergy, members, and a broad range of users, from people who want to learn more about their family history as well as researchers and scholars studying all aspects of Reform Jewish history, including synagogue life, Jewish practice, Miami’s Jewish community, synagogue architecture, and more.

Digitization and an online archive are estimated at least $10,000.

Mission

Unlike most synagogues in South Florida, Temple Israel has a long history. We were founded in 1922 and have been in the same location since 1928. In some respects, Temple Israel's history is the history of Miami. For more than 100 years, Temple Israel has been a Jewish beacon in the central city of Miami. It has had a unique role in South Florida—maverick, intelligent, and progressive.

Temple Israel of Greater Miami is actively visioning and charting a course for our future and our historic building as downtown Miami continues to undergo its redevelopment and renaissance. Moving forward while celebrating our past has constantly strengthened our community.
