Founded in 2002 to bring professional performances of vocal music to South Florida, Seraphic Fire has become a staple of the local and national arts community. Since its inception, Seraphic has grown from a small volunteer-run organization to a professionally managed $2.2 million organization with a staff of 10.
Our programs this year include A Brief History of Western Music, Contemporary: Jewish Voices, A Seraphic Fire Christmas, Renaissance: The Capilla Flamenca, Romantic: Schumann & Mendelssohn, Classical: Martines, Mozart & Haydn, and Baroque: Angels Behind the Walls. In order to see a more in depth description about our concerts this year, please visit www.seraphicfire.org/tickets.
In 2008, the organization recorded its first album, and has since gone on to record 16 full-length albums. In 2012, the ensemble was recognized with 2 GRAMMY® nominations for its recordings "A Seraphic Fire Christmas" and "Brahms: Ein Deutches Requiem." Two of the organization's recordings have debuted in the top 10 of Billboard's classical chart.
Included in Seraphic Fire's robust programming is the Seraphic Fire Youth Initiative (SFYI), a free music education program serving elementary, middle and high school students in some of Miami-Dade's most challenged communities. SFYI consists of a few main components including the Choral Education Residency (CER), In-School Workshops, and Education Concerts, partnering with 8 schools in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Collier counties. To learn more about SFYI please visit https://seraphicfire.org/education.
Seraphic Fire has also sought to increase training opportunities for collegiate-level students who wish to pursue a career as a professional vocalist. In 2018, the Professional Choral Institute was launched in partnership with Aspen Music Festival and School. In 2018, the Ensemble Artist Program began in partnership with UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music. In 2021, the program expanded to University of Miami.
