Safe Families for Children

Over the past three years, Safe Families Miami has connected 86 families in crisis and over 155 children with volunteers who have walked alongside them while they got back on their feet.

Valeria and Miguel are from a foreign country and had been living in Miami for about a year when he was detained by Immigration.  Unable to pay rent, mom and baby ended up in a shelter. When she reached out to Safe Families for Children, she was feeling lonely and hopeless. Family Coach and Family Friend volunteers met Valeria and daughter and connected them with resources, but most importantly the volunteers welcomed them to their lives, home, and church. As a result, Mom regain her strength and hope. While working on weekends, a host family volunteer babysat her daughter. In August, Dad was released from jail, found a stable job, and they all moved into an apartment.

When crisis strikes, there are too many families who have no one to call. "Poverty and social isolation leave too many parents without support networks when they need them the most," says Dave Anderson founder of SFFC. "This can often lead to abuse and neglect of children because families have no where to turn."

Safe Families is a proven model that provides a safety net for families while they get back on their feet. The desire is to build permanent support systems so families don't have to live in isolation.

Since 2020 as part of the statewide effort, Safe Families for Children (SFFC) Miami Chapter has started to partner with churches in Miami-Dade County in keeping children safe, families together, and communities transformed.

$25 Monthly ($300 annually) Recruits, Vets, and Trains a Safe Families Volunteer

$50 Monthly ($600 annually) Supports a Parent Through a Crisis

$100-$125 Monthly ($1,500 annually) Provides Hosting for ONE Child  

$250 Monthly ($3,000  annually) Provides Wraparound Support for a Family 

(that includes coaching, mentorship and resources)
