On June 11, 2019, the North Miami City Council unanimously passed a resolution sponsored by then Councilman Alix Desulme that established “The NoMi Food Pantry,” managed by the city’s Housing and Social Services Department. The pantry’s mission is to end hunger and poverty in North Miami by transforming lives by promoting healthy eating and nutritious education.
On October 25, 2019, the NoMi Food Market officially launched with a ribbon cutting ceremony and community food distribution at the site located at North Miami’s Sunkist Grove Community Center. The founder of NoMi Cares, Councilman Alix Desulme, vision became a reality when he was able to secure nearly $300,000 for the pantry’s operation annually through the partnership with Feeding South Florida and Florida Blue Foundation.
The City of North Miami’s NoMi Food Pantry became the home of the first government-sponsored food pantry in the state of Florida. The pantry is the first of its kind, which created a partnership among the city, Feeding South Florida®, and Florida Blue Foundation.
The North Miami Food Pantry is dedicated to nourishing our community, one meal at a time. Our mission is to alleviate hunger and foster well-being by providing nutritious food, essential resources, and a welcoming environment for individuals and families in need. Through compassion, community collaboration, and the generous support of our volunteers and donors, we strive to empower and inspire positive change in the lives of those we serve. Together, we aim to build a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive North Miami, where no one goes to bed hungry.
