Romania Dukes founded Mothers Fighting for Justice (MFFJ) in 2015 after the death of her son De'Michael Dukes, who was shot and killed as he sat outside of their home. In addition to year-round advocacy to end gun violence and support mothers and families who have lost children to gun violence, Mothers Fighting for Justice (MFFJ) works on different programs and events to help the local community. Events include the annual Walk for Justice in Goulds, FL every July, on the anniversary of De'Michael Duke's death; Angel Kings & Queens Holiday Toy Drive during the holidays; and community service projects in South Miami-Dade to improve the community and assist residents of all ages, all while addressing underlying causes of gun violence.

Mission

The mission of Mothers Fighting for Justice is to end neighborhood violence by empowering mothers and youth to challenge the normalization of gun violence and become effective catalyst for change in their home, schools, and communities. By reclaiming the identity of our communities we restore a sense of hope and purpose for children, youth, and adults.
