The Miami-Dade Urban Debate League (MDUDL) is the local chapter of the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues (NAUDL). MDUDL is aimed at building a local community of active individuals committed to teaching urban youth to think, communicate, collaborate and love learning through the academic activity of policy debate.
The Miami-Dade Urban Debate League aims to build a local community of individuals committed to teaching urban kids to think, communicate, collaborate and love learning. We see confident, successful citizens, who are advocates for themselves and their community.
This is achieved through the sport of policy debate, whereby two teams of two students argue for or against a policy resolution. Students do not get to pick what side they will argue, and points are awarded based on the success of their arguments and persuasive skills. The sport requires and develops research, critical thinking, oratory and public speaking skills.
Research proves that students who engage in policy debate programming have a higher likelihood of succeeding post grade school, and our mission is to continue providing such programming to underserved communities in the Miami-Dade area.
