The Masjid Al-Ansar Food Pantry, a volunteer-powered, non-profit organization, has become a symbol of community strength and support in the heart of Miami. Founded just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the pantry quickly evolved into a crucial lifeline for those grappling with food insecurity. With a commitment to inclusivity, we proudly serve Miami’s diverse and underserved populations, knowing that hunger doesn’t discriminate. We’re open to everyone, regardless of their background, and we’ve created a warm, dignified space where people can access healthy food without judgment.
As the pandemic hit Miami hard, we saw the demand for food assistance skyrocket. Before the pandemic, we supported around 50-60 families every two weeks. But as COVID-19 spread and economic hardships followed, that number surged to 250-300 families each distribution. Today, while some challenges remain, we continue to serve around 175 families at each event. Our ability to adapt has been fueled by the resilience of our volunteers and community, and a grant that enabled us to invest in much-needed infrastructure like a custom-insulated food container, a commercial-sized refrigerator, and freezer. These upgrades have made it possible to serve our community more efficiently.
Our purpose is about more than just food—it’s about uplifting our neighbors, building connections, and ensuring the underserved in Miami have a place to turn to in times of need.
To promote health, and wellness by providing nutritious food to families experiencing nutrition insecurity, in a welcoming and respectful manner.
To foster health, wellness, and healing in the inner-city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts and operating a holistic health center.
