The solution is simple: plant gardens, nourish families, strengthen communities.

Since 2013, Health in the Hood has been working to end food insecurity in Miami’s underserved neighborhoods by building and maintaining urban gardens, distributing free healthy food, and teaching community members about nutrition, gardening, and wellness. Our urban gardens, food distribution programs, and wellness workshops make healthy living accessible, sustainable, and fun! All produce grown in our gardens is distributed for free to children and families in food deserts, where access to fresh food is limited.

We grow a diverse range of produce—like collard greens, tomatoes, kale, cucumbers, green beans, radishes, potatoes, and more! Our gardens are maintained by local residents, providing valuable job opportunities, and are beautified with colorful murals to foster neighborhood pride and vibrancy.

Health in the Hood serves thousands of families facing food insecurity. We provide healthy food while empowering kids and adults alike with practical wellness skills and hands-on learning experiences. By teaching sustainable habits, especially to youth, we are paving the way for healthier generations to come.

At Health in the Hood, we believe food justice is social justice. We’re building a future where fresh food and good health are accessible to everyone. Together, we’re transforming food deserts into thriving, healthy communities.
