MAST Academy’s Green Champions students won Florida’s first Gold Apple Award for sustainability for their school.  Student learn best practices for environmental health and lead projects to reduce the school’s carbon footprint.  They educate and inspire other students and families in our community to become active stewards of our environment.

Green Champions students advocate for a sustainable environment throughout Miami Dade Schools.  A major achievement was successful advocacy for purchase of electric school buses by student Holly Thorpe, who began her advocacy campaign in sixth grade. Students also led the charge for district wide rooftop solar, and successfully advocated for a solar array on a MAST Academy building.  Students promote collaboration with other schools modeling commitment to compost, eliminate single use plastic and for effective recycling.  They deserve our support!
