The Gold Coast Railroad Museum is dedicated to preserving, exhibiting, and operating historic equipment. It houses over 40 historic rail cars including Presidential Rail Car 'Ferdinand Magellan,' and Florida East Coast Steam Locomotive #153.

Founded in 1957, GCRM was built on the former Naval Air Station Richmond (NASR), the second largest WWII airship base in the United States. With over three miles of tracks, the NASR was an ideal place to build a railroad museum.

The Gold Coast Railroad Museum became one of the three official Florida State Railroad Museums in 1984. Besides its rail cars, the museum includes a model railroad room, a Naval Air Station Richmond exhibit, Thomas play tables, and multiple displays of rail equipment.

GCRM operates as a non-profit organization, and devotes itself to instilling the rich history of rail in each of its guests.

Our railroad museum is not just a collection of trains. It is about families, community, schools and the joy of learning in a historic environment. On our fifty-acre historic property GCRM provides historic oriented exhibits and train rides, and hosts increasing numbers of guided school field trips with an orientation presentation, lectures, bus tours, birthday parties, weddings, receptions, business and corporate meetings, film shoots and special events that bring the history of trains to life.

Mission

The mission of the Gold Coast Railroad Museum is to serve by educating all youths and adults who walk through its doors. It provides this service through education focused on hands-on interdisciplinary and inter-generational industrial arts related exhibits, programs, outreach activities, tours and special events which speak to the richness and diversity of our Florida heritage.
