Florida Immigration Law and Justice Center (Florida ILJ) is an affiliate site and member of the National National Immigration Law & Justice Network. We have been serving in South Florida since 2014, and we have become familiar with the challenges and unique identities that are present in the Miami area. Annually, Florida ILJ serves an average of 230 clients. We know the immigration system, and we know that these cases take time and expertise. We also do everything we can to help every person who enters our doors. Even if we are not able to represent a client, we provide them with the education they need to avoid immigration fraud. Our legal services are not just forms; they are the chance to live without fear of tomorrow.

Florida ILJ helps all clients regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or ability. Historically, the US immigration system has been extremely difficult to navigate without legal representation. Language and education barriers also affect low-income immigrants, leading them to face deportation and family separation despite having perfectly acceptable cases because they cannot afford representation to help them navigate the US Immigration system. As an immigration legal aid non-profit composed of a staff for whom the majority have a personal experience with immigration for themselves or their families, Florida ILJ attorneys are able to empathize with the experiences and needs of immigrants coming from nations where they faced persecution based on their religion, national origin, political opinion, race, or membership in particular social group. With the help of Florida ILJ, immigrants receive legal representation, education on citizenship and the immigration system in general, and hope that their dream of safety in the US can be realized.

Mission

Florida Immigration Law & Justice Center (Florida ILJ) is a dedicated immigration legal services nonprofit committed to providing high-quality, no-cost legal counsel to low-income immigrants and their families throughout the state of Florida, with a strong presence in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa Bay. Our work is especially focused in South Florida, where we provide crucial legal representation for children who arrive in the United States unaccompanied, seeking safety and stability. For these children, we secure pathways to protection through asylum applications, U-Visas for victims of crime, T-Visas for victims of human trafficking, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status for those abandoned, neglected, or abused.

Our organization is proud to be part of the National Immigration Law & Justice Network, working collaboratively across Florida to strengthen immigrant support services in diverse communities. In addition to our specialized work with unaccompanied children, Florida ILJ provides free legal representation and support to other vulnerable immigrant populations, including refugees, asylum seekers, survivors of domestic violence, and those seeking Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). We also assist with family-based immigration applications, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and naturalization services, helping low-income immigrants secure legal status and stability for themselves and their families.

Our mission is twofold: to welcome immigrants safely to the United States through accessible legal services and to champion immigrant rights at the local, state, and national levels. Florida ILJ engages in critical advocacy efforts to influence policy and raise awareness about immigrant issues in Florida and beyond. Additionally, we prioritize community education, offering resources and informational sessions to the public on immigration issues, legal rights, and the challenges facing immigrants in our state. Through these initiatives, Florida ILJ aims to empower immigrant families, promote social justice, and foster a more inclusive and informed society.
