$10,000 Goal

Launched in September 2020, Fab Lab Miami offers engaging programming in Miami's urban core around digital fabrication and other STEAM-related activities so that youth can play, create, learn, mentor and invent. Participants learn by designing and creating objects of personal interest or import. Students are working in the following areas: 3D printing, vinyl cutting, laser cutting, coding, robotics, electronics, science experiments and design software. Rather than relying on a fixed curriculum, learning happens in an authentic, engaging, personal context in which students go through a cycle of imagination, design, prototyping, reflection, and iteration as they find solutions to challenges or bring their ideas to life.

Fab Lab Miami launched in the fall of 2020 and has provided programming to participants at the Belafonte Tacolcy Center, Liberty City Optimist Club, Girl Power and Tru Prep Academy. One program graduate shared the following about Fab Lab Miami: "One of the best decisions I've made...it is the most fun I've ever had . . . I can let my creativity shine. It is a great place where you can be yourself and show what you can make and what you can do and what you can give to society or the public and be part of something bigger than what you are . . . and be who you are."

Mission

Fab Lab Miami aims to inspire and nurture the pursuit of coursework and careers in STEAM through a maker-driven, hands-on experience with digital fabrication and STEAM activities.
