Dade Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society

The Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS) is a non-profit organization formed in 1980 to promote the preservation, conservation, and restoration of the native plants and native plant communities of Florida. The Dade Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society (DCFNPS) is one of 37 chapters around the state and includes residents of the Florida Keys.

South Florida's native plants are the foundation of its special subtropical environment, supporting our unique wildlife. Native plants in landscaping add texture and beauty to the human environment with attractive and fragrant flowers and fruits that attract vibrant butterflies, birds, and other pollinators.

DCFNPS' premier event is Native Plant Day, a day of activities to enthrall you with Florida native plants. It will next be in Castellow Hammock Park in March of 2025 (check the Website for updates closer to the event). Donations help us support and enhance Native Plant Day, fund a grant to conserve and restore native plant communities, and engage in other projects.

Other chapter activities include:
• Monthly meetings where we learn, share plants and meet friends
• The monthly newsletter, Tillandsia, with activity announcements and articles about native plants and the South Florida environment
• Monthly field trips to enjoy South Florida's environment and learn about our incredible natural heritage
• Visits to native plant gardens for landscaping ideas and to learn what works (and what doesn't)
• Outreach event participation to show others the beauty and value of native plants and their communities

FNPS (www.fnps.org) engages in educational and environmental efforts, such as an annual conference, a quarterly magazine, a talk series on YouTube, and support for research, conservation, and ethnobotany. It also advocates for policies to preserve our natural heritage and recognizes outstanding native plant landscaping and restoration projects.

We would love to meet you! Please enjoy our meetings on the 4th Tuesday of each month (except July, August, and December), held at Pinecrest Gardens at 7:30 pm, free and open to the public. You can also watch the meeting on YouTube, live-streamed or recorded. Members gather at a local park or DCFNPS member home in July for a member-only social.
