Although, CWS administers federal and state grants many newcomers do not qualify for services under these grants. CWS uses private funds to assist those newcomers who cannot be served under these federal and state grants. These programs require the greatest community and volunteer support to help each refugee with physical and emotional needs and to help during their transition of starting a new life in the United States.


CWS assists refugees with: Housing and basic needs assistance, Enrollment in school, Medical attention, Job skills building and job placement, Financial assistance.


-The Integration Assistance Program provides assistance to eligible refugees and entrants to effectively resettle.


-The CWS South Florida Legal Department provides legal assistance for applications such as legal permanent residence, employment authorization documents, family petitions, and naturalization.


-State of Florida Refugee and Entrant Service Program: Through the State of Florida Refugee and Entrant Service Program, CWS may serve completely free of charge, Cuban and Haitian Entrants, Asylees, and Refugees in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County. Eligibility strictly depends on case approval by the State of Florida.


-The Matching Grant Program is a program that helps refugees, asylees, Cuban and Haitian Entrants, victims of severe forms of trafficking, and special immigrant visa holders to "attain economic self-sufficiency through the provision of comprehensive case management and services leading to employment within 120 to 180 days after their date of eligibility for the program." Persons that fall within the above categories must enroll within 31 days of receiving status to participate in the Matching Grant Program. Services Offered by the Program: Cash assistance, Employment search and placement, Housing/transportation assistance, Child care referral, Case Management Services,Referral English classes.

Mission

CWS is the lead resettlement agency in South Florida, with an array of programs geared towards assisting newcomers to become integrated into our community and be self-sufficient in the quickest time possible.

Our programs include the US Reception and Placement, Matching Grant, Immigration Legal Services, Housing Assistance, Tier Case Management, Employment, Children and Young Adult Mentoring, Education, Youth, Childcare and Border Hotline. Through these various programs, CWS assists people from all over the world including, Cuba, Ukraine, Haiti, Venezuela, Colombia, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Iran, Iraq, Burma, and Democratic Republic of Congo.

CWS first opened an office in Miami, Florida in1960 to assist refugees fleeing Cuba during the aftermath of the Cuban Revolution. Since then, CWS South Florida has grown and expanded its programs into Broward and Palm Beach Counties and currently servers refugees from all parts of the world.
