The CCF accomplishes its goals through underwater cameras and emerging technology to bring Miami's underwater world to the public, while empowering scientific research. The impact of our work is maximized via collaborations with scientists, educators, and restoration organizations in order to facilitate long-term habitat monitoring in Biscayne Bay, creative media production for educational outreach, and the development of nurseries propagating Florida’s threatened corals, seagrasses, and other marine life for nature-based solutions for restoration and climate change adaptation.

The CCF has partnered with the Education Fund of Miami-Dade County and educators at the Biscayne Nature Center to bring the CCC into the classroom and create age-appropriate curricula for students. These cameras are powerful and cost-effective tools at linking students and the community with Miami’s most powerful economic driver of tourism and real estate: its marine ecosystems.

In partnership with The Kampong National Tropical Botanical Garden we aim to deploy two more cameras in 2024 to connect the public with the critical seagrass and mangrove habitats fringing our coastline and create a ‘Biscayne Bay Network’ publicly accessible from one convenient webpage.

Mission

"Building Civic Pride through Biodiversity"

The Coral City Foundation’s mission is to connect the public to Miami's coastal ecosystems using underwater livestreaming cameras and technology to document, protect, research, restore and raise awareness of Miami’s coastal marine ecosystems. It was founded in 2023 under the fiscal sponsorship of the Key Biscayne Community Foundation.

Since 2020 the Coral City Camera has connected nearly 3 million viewers to Miami’s urban coral ecosystem, documenting over 200 fish species and offering the most equitable opportunity to observe Biscayne Bay’s biodiversity in a project that is equal parts art, science, technology, and education.
