The Education Fund provides private sector leadership and support for innovation in public education. We design and implement initiatives that involve the entire community in improving our schools. Our mission is to maximize every child's potential and to ensure that each one graduates with every opportunity for success. We've increased the percent of students going to college or career/technical programs by 34%; we've improved children's eating habits by more than 50% and science scores by 80%. We've built 51 school edible gardens, including 16 Food Forests, giving more than 34,000 children food-based lessons, cafeteria meals with garden harvests, and more than 48,798 harvest bags for take-home distribution. We create outlets for student creativity, team-building, and critical thinking skills through our "Art of Found Objects" exhibition and awards ceremony, with several awards for juried artworks.
We help top teachers share best practices with ALL 20,000 teachers, including STEM and Robotics curriculum projects. Thousands of business people better understand the teaching profession via our Teach-A-Thon. And hundreds join us each February for A Taste of Education, featuring culinary teams and top judges -- a la South Beach Wine and Food Festival. Business professionals celebrate the Teach-A-Thon, see mini-installations of our work, including a Food Forest, eat fabulous dishes, and more.
Students at Joella C. Good Elementary School prepare for a harvest in their Food Forest. More than 48,798 harvest bags have gone home with students in the last two years. Food Forest harvests have also been used in cafeteria meals on more than 1,764 occasions, with students promoting that day's garden crops.
