South Florida Writers Association (SFWA)

The South Florida Writers Association (SFWA) is a 501(C) 3 nonprofit educational and membership organization dedicated to the literary arts and support of writers in our community. Our mission is to establish and maintain a forum for fellowship, education and information among writers in the South Florida area; to encourage excellence and promote interest in literary achievements in the community. Our programs promote audience development for literary works, public educational and information services, representation, community projects and advocacy for the literary arts. We provide tools for writers to succeed through our Mango Writers Conference, workshops, critique groups, writing contests, sale of books through the SFWA booth at the annual Miami Book Fair and our own mini-book fair BookFest at Pinecrest, public readings, Poetry Slam, etc. SFWA publishes a monthly newsletter, Author's Voice. We co-sponsor the annual Junior Orange Bowl Creative Writing Essay Competition among 8th Graders in partnership with the Junior Orange Bowl Committee and Miami Dade County Public Schools, through cash prizes and judging to foster writing excellence among our youth. Our monthly meetings feature educational presentations about writing, publishing, marketing or award-winning or best-selling authors, agents or publishers, held every first Saturdays,10:30 A.M.to 12:30 noon, at the Pinecrest Library located at 5835 SW 111 Street, Pinecrest, FL 33156.
