South Florida SPCA is the only qualified resource for law enforcement in Miami-Dade when encountering horses and other farm animals that are victims of cruelty or abandonment. Laurie Waggoner, SFSPCA founder and director of ranch operations, is on call 24/7 to assist police in the safe removal of large stray animals that pose a danger to themselves and the public, and those that are being abused and/or neglected by their owners. The horses and animals are signed over to SFSPCA, and are taken to the organization's ranch in Homestead for safe shelter, proper feed, veterinary care, farrier services, and more. Waggoner also lends her knowledge and expertise in animal cruelty investigations, and serves as an expert witness when needed.
