Miami-Dade Parks’ G.E.M. program began in the summer of 2010 as a pilot program initiated by the department’s RAICES Hispanic Cultural Arts Center at Miller Drive Park. Campers will receive mentoring and resources from professors and administrators from Barry University, FIU and Miami-Dade College; organizations such Perez Art Museum-Miami, History Miami Museum, FIU Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, and Futurama Art Gallery at Little Havana; and community leaders from the fields of government, arts, academia, and business. The camps culminate with a Summer Arts Showcase. Through the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade, the annual In the Company of Women event supports The Women’s Park and its G.E.M. Summer Arts Camp.
