Karen Peterson Dancers (KPD) is dedicated to the development of physically integrated dance through education, presentation, inclusive trainings and professional contemporary performances. Artistic Director Karen Peterson has won multiple awards for her choreographic vision, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 from the Levenson Dance Foundation, a 2011 Knight Foundation Award to support the company’s work in the Miami Dade Schools, a Guest Speaking engagement at Dance/USA 2017 and a major 2017 Knight grant to support “Forward Motion,” a new annual physically integrated dance festival that will take place September 2018 and September 2019. Since 1990, the company has presented a season of new ensemble work, performed by hundreds of dancers, created by multiple choreographers, on a local, national and international venues. Committed to touring the company performed in New York City, Ohio, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and throughout Florida. Internationally KPD has created performance and residencies in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in Carpi, Italy, at the Edinburgh “Fringe”, Scotland; at the American Choreographers Showcase, in Madrid, Spain; at the Montenegrin National Theatre in Podgorica; Cork, Ireland and Lisbon, Portugal. The London/Miami Dance Exchange took place in September 2018 in Miami at the Miami Light Box.. KPD has also sustained ongoing educational workshops for over 4,000 teens with special needs since 2006.

This unique dance festival, co-sponsored by the Knight Foundation for 2018 and 2019 and the NEA in 2018, brought together Candoco Dance from London, Axis Dance from California and REVolutions Dance from Tampa to discuss and perform physically integrated dance at a four day festival produced by Karen Peterson and Dancers Inc.
