Born Free Shelter

The mission of Born Free Pet Shelter, Inc. is to promote the welfare of animals. The Born Free Pet Shelter actively rescues dogs, provides quality care and offers sanctuary until loving homes can be found. BFPS is a no kill animal rescue. Born Free Pet Shelter, provides a geographically critical service as a no-kill animal rescue organization in the Southwest Miami-Dade County community since 1981. Since the founding, Born Free Pet Shelter has saved over 25,000 animals. With thousands of successful adoptions, our programs support the sheltering and welfare of homeless animals. Countless dogs are left abandoned and lost in the Miami streets and the Everglades. We rescue them and after nurturing these animals back to health we begin the process of adoption. We educate families as part of the adoption process and provide training programs for our volunteers. We are currently running a High School Student Volunteer Program, the students earn community service hours for their efforts. Our volunteers also include the University of Miami students, as well as caring adults from the community. Our 5 acre property size allows for the care of animals in a humane, open environment where animals can exercise and maintain a healthy life while awaiting adoption. Our programs include microchips for all the animals, neutering, spaying and quality veterinary care in a nurturing environment.
