When is Give Miami Day?

Give Miami Day 2016 will take place on Thursday, November 17th. The 24-hour event begins at 12 a.m. on November 17 and ends at 12 a.m. on November 18.

Who hosts Give Miami Day?
Give Miami Day is hosted by The Miami Foundation, the community foundation for Miami-Dade County. The Foundation does not collect any fees and hosts Give Miami Day as part of our mission to promote philanthropy throughout Miami-Dade County.

Who can make a gift?
Anyone! This event is open to the public, and anyone in the world who wishes to participate may do so by making a gift at givemiamiday.org.

How can I make a gift?

Gifts can be made via debit, credit or qualified gift card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express) or through a Donor Advised Fund at The Miami Foundation. You may make a gift on the givemiamiday.org home page, through a nonprofit’s profile on givemiamiday.org, or via an embedded Give Miami Day donation form on a nonprofit's website.

Can I make gifts to multiple organizations?
Yes, and you’re encouraged to do so. The easiest way to do this is through the multi-gift option on the givemiamiday.org home page. Simply enter your first gift and then click the “Add gift” button to add another nonprofit to your giving list.

Is there a minimum or maximum gift?
The minimum gift accepted is $25. There is no maximum gift amount. Please note: only gifts between $25 and $10,000 are eligible for funds from the Bonus Pool.

What kind of cards do you accept?
We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit, gift and debit cards.

Can I make my gift with check, cash, money order or PayPal? 
Gifts may not be made using those donation methods. We highly recommend purchasing a qualified gift card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) if you are not able to make a gift with a credit or debit card.

How much of my gift will go to the nonprofit?
All gifts, minus credit card and transaction fees, will be paid to your selected organization. Credit card and transaction fees are estimated at 4.5% - this includes the fee paid to Kimbia, which is The Miami Foundation’s giving day technology partner. The Miami Foundation does not collect any fees and hosts Give Miami Day as part of our mission to promote philanthropy throughout Miami-Dade County.

Can I pay for the credit card fees on the donation I’m making?
Yes. This year, we’re giving donors the option to help cover the estimated 4.5% credit card and transaction fees for their donations.

How can I make a gift on behalf of someone else?
If you’re making a gift on behalf of another person, you may include their name under the “This gift is” option on your giving form. We recommend adding a note in the “Comments or Special Instructions” section of the form indicating that a thank-you note should be sent to that individual.

Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes, your gift and any fees you may choose to cover are fully tax-deductible. You will receive an itemized receipt to submit with your taxes after making a gift.

Can I receive anything in exchange for my gift?

No. Gifts made on Give Miami Day may not be used to pay for anything that might be perceived as a material benefit to the donor, including tickets to events, membership fees or other gifts.

How does the Bonus Pool work?

The Miami Foundation and our partners maximize our community’s generosity by making a bonus gift for every donation between $25 and $10,000. For gifts greater than $10,000, the first $10,000 will be considered for a bonus gift.

The bonus gift percentage is calculated by dividing the total Bonus Pool dollars by the total eligible gifts raised during the event. For example, in 2015, the bonus gift percentage was 8.29%. If an organization raised $5,000 on Give Miami Day 2015, their bonus gift was $414.50.

When is the Bonus Pool percentage calculated?
The Miami Foundation determines the bonus pool percentage upon review of every gift made on Give Miami Day. An announcement will be made to participating organizations via email.

What are Prizes?
Generously supported by the Miami Marlins, our prizes help you earn extra dollars for your selected organizations. These hourly and milestone opportunities range from $1,000 to $2,017 in extra dollars for the winning nonprofits. What are Match Minutes?
Generously supported by Miami FC, Match Minutes help you earn extra dollars for your selected organizations by providing at 100% match for every gift between $25 and $100. Click here to view the available match minutes. Please note - donations above $100 are not eligible to receive Match Minute dollars.

How do I get a receipt for my donation?

You will automatically receive an itemized receipt for your donation(s) via email from The Miami Foundation.

Why does my credit card statement say I made a gift to The Miami Foundation?
Give Miami Day is hosted by The Miami Foundation. The Foundation does not collect any fees and hosts Give Miami Day as part of our mission to promote philanthropy throughout Miami-Dade County. Your gifts, along with the nonprofit's bonus gift and any prizes or Match Minute dollars, will be distributed directly to each participating nonprofit through the Foundation.

When will the nonprofit I’ve supported receive their gift?
Give Miami Day nonprofits will receive all funds, including gifts, Bonus Pool, Prizes and Match Minute dollars, by the end of the year.

Who should I contact if I have an error while making my gift?
If you are unable to complete a transaction while attempting to make your gift, please contact your credit card company.

If you accidentally make a gift to the wrong organization, please contact us at 305.371.2711 to make the adjustment. After Friday, November 18, 2016 at 4:00pm, all gifts made to selected organizations are final and non-refundable unless directed by the merchant processing company.

What do the nonprofits do with the donation I’ve made?    
Gifts made on Give Miami Day are for the unrestricted use of your selected organization.

Does The Miami Foundation accept employer matching gifts for Give Miami Day?
Yes, The Miami Foundation will accept employer-matched contributions.  Those gifts will be directed to the organization designated by the donor upon receipt. If the donor made multiple gifts on Give Miami Day, the employer’s gift will be equally divided amongst the donor’s designated organizations. Employer gifts are not eligible for bonus dollars. 

How will my email address and personal information be used?
Email addresses will be used to send electronic tax receipts for gifts made on Give Miami Day, as well as a post-event survey. Unless you choose to give anonymously, your name, email address and billing address will be shared with the organizations to whom your gifts will be credited.

The Miami Foundation does not retain credit card information and your personal data will not be shared with or sold to any other outside vendors or third parties.

Unless you withhold permission for us to do so, The Miami Foundation may send you periodic newsletters informing you of news and upcoming events in our community.
